The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of five suspects, aged 16 to 19, in connection with a viral video circulating on social media platforms showing a group of female suspects ass_ulting a female victim.
The suspects, Vimbai Mike (19), Rudo Manjere (17), Lilly Rose Munyoro (16), Lillian Chido Munyoro (17), and Sandra Vhumbunu (17), were arrested on July 10 2024, in connection with the case of aggravated indecent ass_ult that occurred at Mupfuuri Village, Wedza on July 4, 2024.
According to the police investigation, Rudo Manjere, Lilly Rose Munyoro, and Lillian Chido Munyoro lured the victim, Mavis Mada (18), to Vimbai Mike’s homestead at Mupfuuri Village, Wedza on the pretext that they wanted to give her vegetable seedlings. The suspects then locked the victim in a hut and stripped her n_ked.
The five suspects proceeded to ass_ult the victim with switches and inserted three sticks into her private parts while recording a video.
The victim fell unconscious and the suspects poured water on her before freeing her nak3d at 1500 hours. The reason behind the ass_ult is currently unknown.
The arrest of the suspects led to the recovery of a Vivo cellphone used to record the assa_lt incident.
Vimbai Mike is being detained in police custody, while the other four juvenile suspects have been released into the custody of their parents and will be taken to court for further legal proceedings.
The complainant is alive and receiving medical attention at Mount St Mary’s Hospital.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has urged the public to settle disputes amicably without resorting to v!olence and has promised that the law will take its course in this case without fear or favor.
