A heartwarming display of solidarity and compassion was witnessed in Ward 22 of Bulawayo, where residents joined forces to support a local woman whose house was completely destroyed in a devastating f!re.
The official statement released by the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) Fire Brigade painted a bleak picture of the d@mage caused by the destructive f!re.
Their report revealed that the woman’s four-roomed house, along with all her belongings and personal possessions, was entirely consumed by the blaze, resulting in a staggering US$5,000 worth of property being lost.
Ward 22 councillor Bruce Moyo said they mobilised cash and food for the v!ctim and will be handing them over this weekend.
“The affected individual is a 46-year-old single mother who stays with her 20-year-old child. The house was reduced to ashes and currently she is taking refuge at a neighbour’s house.
“We are gathering at Nkulumane Hall today with the donations before handing them over to the v!ctim,” Moyo said.
BCCC acting f!re officer Mhlangano Moyo said the f!re started in the spare bedroom.
“Property worth US$5 000 was lost. There was also a delay in calling the f!re brigade hence the extent of the d@mage,” he said.
