Nigerian actor John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, disclosed his ongoing battle with a severe illness, raising concerns about the potential amputation of one of his legs.
Celebrating his 62nd birthday from a hospital bed in Lagos, Mr Ibu made a heartfelt appeal to his fans and fellow Nigerians for financial assistance and prayers.
In a video on his Instagram account, he shared that he has been grappling with an undisclosed “strange and dangerous” ailment for several weeks. His doctor informed him that amputating his leg might become necessary if the current treatment proves ineffective.
Expressing his reluctance to lose a limb, Mr Ibu implored divine intervention and public support.
“I have been down for so many weeks. All I am hoping for is your prayers and assistance. As I speak to you, I am still lying down in the hospital; the medical director of this hospital said that the best solution is that, in case his new idea didn’t work, the best idea is to cut off my leg.
Just see me, if they cut off my leg, where do I go from here? Please pray for me, talk to God Almighty, and I don’t want my legs to be cut off. Thank you so much. God bless you.”
Mr Ibu’s daughter, Jasmine Okafor, confirmed that her father has been in hospital for two weeks [three weeks now] and that the family is grappling with the financial burden of his medical expenses.
She appealed to Nigerians to rally to support the celebrated actor to ensure he receives the best available medical treatment.
