BULAWAYO residents can now sleep easier knowing a 38-year-old serial housebreaker who targeted their homes has been arrested.
Tauya Maguwu is in police custody in connection with a series of unlawful entry and theft cases in Bulawayo.
According to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Maguwu is linked to seven cases of unlawful entry and theft that occurred in and around Bulawayo between January 2021 and 12 March 2025. He stole goods, valued at US$3 500, include household items, electronic devices, and appliances.
One notable case occurred in Nketa, Bulawayo, in December 2021, where the suspect allegedly stole a laptop, a Starlet HD decoder, a Q-set decoder, two laptop speakers, and a radio speaker. Another case was reported in Sizinda on 12 March 2025, where Maguwu is suspected of breaking into a house and stealing a Samsung home theatre, three blankets, and a 50-inch Samsung television.
The police have since recovered property worth US$1 900 from the suspect.
