In an effort to tackle the issue of illegal meat sales, the Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched an operation code-named “Nyama Yabvepi,” which translates to “Where did you get the meat?”
The primary goal of this operation is to curb the illegal sale of meat on the streets and ensure that the meat being sold is safe for consumption.
The operation has been a collaborative effort between the police, the Veterinary Department, and the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
Together, they aim to crack down on the sale of uninspected meat and ensure that no stolen or sick animals are accepted for slaughter.
Since its launch, “Operation Nyama Yabvepi” has already seen some success, with over 111 butcheries being closed for breaching public health laws.
Additionally, over 300 suspects have been arrested for stock theft activities, highlighting the effectiveness of this collaborative effort.
By intensifying this operation, the authorities hope to maintain public safety and ensure that the meat being sold on the streets is of high quality and safe for consumption.
