A Bindura District Medical Officer, Dr. Tonderai Chiwawa, is at the center of a controversy after his pregnant girlfriend, Karen Tandanguni, accused him of proposing a troubling compensation deal following their breakup.
Karen claims that after Dr. Chiwawa ended their relationship, he suggested compensating her with two goats while leaving the door open for reconciliation.
The couple’s tumultuous relationship began in November 2022. Dr. Chiwawa, who is 40 years old and married, is now facing accusations in a traditional chief’s court.
Karen claims he not only abandoned her but also pressured her to terminate her pregnancy as reported by H Metro.
As a result, they are scheduled to appear before Chief Masembura on January 19.
Previously, Dr. Chiwawa was supposed to attend a hearing at Chief Chipadze’s court but failed to appear.

According to Karen, the doctor’s proposal of goats as compensation for her distress is deeply insulting. She alleges he has even threatened her following her decision to keep the baby, heightening her fears for her safety.
In addition to her allegations, Karen has also reported an incident to the Bindura Police Station where her phone—containing evidence of her communications with Dr. Chiwawa—was stolen. She told H-Metro that the doctor is accusing her of seeking attention at the expense of his reputation.
“He promised to marry me but has since denied responsibility. He claims I will suffer for bringing him to the chief’s court,” Karen stated. Additionally, she revealed that Dr. Chiwawa has a complicated history with relationships, including two children with his first wife, three with his second, and one with a maid.
Karen emphasized that she remains in contact with some of Dr. Chiwawa’s relatives, who have warned her about his character. She also noted that he has been desperately trying to prevent her from going public with her story.
When approached for comment, Dr. Chiwawa dismissed the allegations, stating he only knows Karen from the neighborhood and accusing her of attempting to tarnish his image. “I don’t care whatever she says; you can write all the information she tells you,” he said.
