There were three cases of robbers breaking into private schools, stealing cash and valuables, and making away with them.
Three schools, namely Lomagundi College, Sacred Heart College, and Ariel School reported robberies at their premises.
On 9 January, ten armed robbers pounced on Lomagundi College and held the staff and security hostage. They went on to break into offices and got away with some cash, guns from the security team, cellphones and laptops.
After getting all that, the robberies got away in a Mazda Tribute that belonged to Mr Tendai Masombo, the deputy school head. The robbers did not take any money belonging to the school but took cash that belonged to the staff members. The police are looking into the matter and investigating the case while the parents of the students were notified of what had taken place.
At the Elite Roman Catholic school in Gweru, a robbery took place on 10 January very early in the morning. They got away with school fees that had been paid by three parents late in the afternoon, some club money and staff’s cash, as well as laptops and CCTV equipment.
This school in Ruwa was robbed in December on the 29th. These armed men first broke into the homes of two of the staff members, Miss Bates and Miss Bennett, before forcing them to the school.
They were forced to deactivate the school alarms, and the robber raided the Bursar’s office. The robbers went on to rob another place in Tarisa Road, where a shoot occurred, before abandoning the four staff of Ariel school they had abducted with Miss Bates’ car along Harare Drive before fleeing.
The school lost cash and property worth $ 1,500 on all three crime scenes. The matter has been reported to the authorities, and investigations are underway.
