HARARE – A suspected r@pist was apprehended while chasing a minor girl into a Harare neighbourhood barely two weeks after he broke into a city home where he allegedly seized and raped a 13-year-old girl.
Freddie Kachirundu, 23, appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei charged with r@pe.
He was not asked to plead and will return to court on February 15 for trial.
Kachirundu is also charged with unlawful entry.
According to court papers, on January 14 this year, Kachirundu allegedly broke into a house in Harare’s Glen View suburb while the owners were sleeping and went on to r@pe a 13-year-old family member.
“On January 14, 2024, the complainant was sleeping in the dining room when she was awakened by the accused who pointed a knife at her,” reads court papers in part.
It is further alleged he frog-marched the minor out to a secluded place out 200 mitres from her home and r@ped her once without protection.
Kachirundu is said to have taken her back to her home after the abuse before rewarding his misdeeds with some household items.
“After returning to the house, Kachirundu stole a laptop and a gas stove before making his exit,” further reads court papers.
A few weeks later, Kachirundu allegedly tried to r@pe another girl whom he had lured into a maize field in the area.
The minor reportedly managed to escape after he had told her point blank, he had intentions of r@pe her.
The girl fled into a residential area with Kachirundu in pursuit.
His luck ran out when he got spotted by his first victim who was assisted by the public to apprehend him.
