Former Manchester United caretaker, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has celebrated a successful start as Leicester City head coach with a 3-1 victory over West Ham in English Premier League matchday 14. His debut match as Leicester manager brought a spirited performance from his team, which enjoyed a stroke of luck that had eluded former coach Julen Lopetegui in similar circumstances.
Van Nistelrooy’s side took an early lead just two minutes into the first half when Foxes striker Jamie Vardy found the back of the net following an assist from El Khannouss B.
The 48-year-old Dutchman was appointed last Friday to replace Steve Cooper, who was dismissed after a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at King Power Stadium, ending his tenure after just 12 Premier League matches.
Van Nistelrooy had watched Leicester suffer a heavy 4-1 loss to Brentford on Sunday from the stands alongside the club’s owner, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha.
Speaking after the victory, Van Nistelrooy emphasized the significance of the result given the team’s position in the league.
“In the end, you look at the result and the three points. In the position we are in, it’s vital,” he said.
The win lifts Leicester to 15th place in the Premier League standings, just two points behind West Ham.
