Sabhuku Temba Mliswa speaks about the recently launched ZIG currency which is regarded by some Zimbos as the most powerful currency in Africa. NewsReportzim.com extract some Mliswa’s tweets below:
I see a lot of propaganda selling the ZiG as a strong currency even before it has properly come into use. However, the issue with our currencies is an acute lack of stability. Mind you at one time the Bond was premised on 1:1 with the US$ but for how long was that?
Currently transactions are being done in US$, without the ZiG& that is ominous. There is no void to fill for the ZiG when it actually comes into circulation. That’s why even house helps are able to make ends meet because they get paid in US$. Why not do that for all workers?
The essence of all that we do should be to make sure it’s people-centred. That should be the underlining basis for sustaining or doing anything. Constantly throwing people into a lurch without care for their well-being isn’t being people-centred.
The very figures of the gold that is supposed to hedge the new currency already make the situation precarious. We are a gold-producing country and yet the barely 2 tonnes of gold are all there is to prop the supposedly structured currency. It’s not emboldening.
This is all a result of corruption. The constant leakages of gold going out with no remittances for the country. The US$ generated by Zimra etc. Corruption is at the root of all these symptomatic outbreaks of instability across the macro-econonic sector.
