SEVERAL people are feared dead after Bandama Dam in Chipinge collapsed this Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction downstream.
Although the number of people affected by the dam collapse is yet to be ascertained, Chipinge ward 10 councillor Pearson Sithole told the ZBC News that three bodies have been recovered, while three children are missing.
He said livestock was also affected but the number is yet to be compiled.
Manicaland Acting Director for Local Government Services, Mr John Misi also confirmed the sad development, revealing that among the dead is a 30-year-old man who was found under the mud close to the dam wall and a 4-year-old girl whose body was found downstream.
Mr Misi also revealed that a 7-year-old girl who was swept downstream has been rescued and rushed to the hospital.
He added that a 13-year-old girl marooned as a result of the dam collapse has since been rescued by members of the community.
