A road traffic accident occurred on the highway at the 33 km peg from Gweru to Bulawayo, when a Motivation Motors bus collided with a pickup truck that was reportedly suffering from a busted front wheel.
The accident left four individuals with broken limbs and two others unconscious, raising serious concerns about road safety and emergency response times in the area.
The collision took place in the early hours of the morning. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the pickup truck lose control after its front tire burst, causing it to veer off the road. The bus driver, unable to react in time, struck the pickup from the side, resulting in a vi0lent impact that left passengers and drivers alike in a state of panic.
After the crash, those at the scene quickly notified emergency services, including ambulances and the Gweru fire brigade. However, an hour passed without any assistance arriving, exacerbating the already dire situation.
Realising that help was taking too long to arrive, bystanders contacted Mars, a private ambulance service, which responded promptly to the scene. Shortly after, other service providers, including the City of Gweru fire brigade, also arrived to assist with the rescue effort.
Sources at the scene, who spoke with the drivers of both vehicles involved in the crash, reported that both the bus driver and the pickup truck driver were stable, though in a state of panic. Emergency responders worked diligently to assess !njuries and provide necessary medical attention to those affected.
Paramedics quickly prioritised the two individuals who were unconscious, transferring them to nearby medical facilities for further evaluation and treatment.
