The Department of Health in South Africa has raised alarms over the proliferation of counterfeit c0nd0ms, particularly highlighting the alarming situation in Gauteng province.
Authorities have discovered that these fake products are often sold in local spaza shops and exhibit noticeable differences in packaging from genuine, certified products.
In a statement, the Department emphasized the dangers posed by these unregulated c0nd0ms:

“These fake products, which lack certification from the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), are not reliable in preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, as well as unwanted pregnancies.”
The serious health risks associated with using these counterfeit condoms have prompted the Department to urge consumers to exercise caution.
They stressed the importance of purchasing condoms only from trusted and certified sources in order to ensure safety.
Investigations into the counterfeit c0nd0m trade are currently underway, as authorities work to address this urgent public health concern.
