In a shocking turn of events, Alexander Tapiwa Kaseke, a 28-year-old Harare kombi driver, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for reckless driving. And the best part? It was all because he saw the police coming.
On April 29, 2025, Kaseke was reversing his trusty Nissan Caravan along Robert Mugabe Road when he spotted the authorities approaching. In a moment of sheer brilliance, he decided to jump out of the moving vehicle, leaving it to crash into a traffic light pole, which then fell and damaged two parked cars. Because, you know, that’s exactly what you do when you see the police – you abandon your vehicle and hope for the best.
Miraculously, no one was injured, but the two parked cars – a Kia Picanto and a Honda Fit – weren’t so lucky. They suffered significant damage, because who needs functional vehicles, anyway? Kaseke’s valid driver’s license was canceled, and he’s been banned from driving for 24 months. Guess that’s one way to get out of driving.
The court found Kaseke guilty of reckless driving and sentenced him to 36 months in prison, with 12 months suspended on condition of good behavior. Because, let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good prison sentence to spice up their life? Kaseke’s kombi-driving days are behind him, but his legendary panic stunt will live on forever.
