Limpopo police are conducting an inquest after a tragic fire at the weekend resulted in the de@ths of two toddlers, who were found bu_rnt beyond recognition. The incident occurred while their mother was not at home.
Police in Villa Nora, Waterberg district, responded to a call about a fire at a residence in Vianeen village on Sunday night. Upon arrival at around 8:30 pm, they found community members attempting to put out the flames.
Initial investigations revealed that the mother had left her six children at home to go to a spaza shop to collect social grant money.
According to police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba, the oldest child was 12 years old.
Ledwaba explained that a candle had been lit when the mother left.
Upon her return, she found the six-room house engulfed in flames, with community members trying to extinguish the fire. Four children managed to escape, but tragically, two children, aged two and four, perished in the blaze.
