A public prosecutor stationed at Rusape Magistrate Court has found himself in trouble after he was arr3sted by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for allegedly demanding bribe from a suspect to secure her acquittal on dr-gs charges.
According to reports, the incident unfolded on Wednesday last week when Takunda Muzenda approached the suspect who appeared before Magistrate Barbra Mateko facing charges of unlawfully cultivating dagga.
The prosecutor allegedly solicited the bribe in exchange for ensuring her acquittal.
The suspect reported the soliciting to Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), who then set a trap. On Thursday, ZACC officers accompaniedRumbidzai Sananga to Muzenda’s office under the pretence of delivering the bribe. However, Muzenda quickly refused the money after receiving a phone call alerting him to the trap.
However, Muzenda was arr3sted and ZACC officer investigate why Muzenda quickly refused to take the money. After investigations, it is revealed that fellow prosecutor Marlon Makamba had warned Muzenda about the operation. Makamba, in turn, had been tipped off by Gladman Gabaza, a Rusape court clerk, who learned of the plan from Sananga’s sister, Chenai Kundidzo.
