In the bustling neighborhood of Kuwadzana, Harare, innovation knows no bounds, as demonstrated by 21-year-old Panashe Nyampingidza.
Armed with creativity and a passion for engineering, Panashe has captured hearts and attention with his remarkable achievement: a car prototype crafted entirely from scrap materials found in his community.
For Panashe, this project isn’t just about building a vehicle; it’s a testament to perseverance and resourcefulness. “I’ve always been fascinated by cars and how they work,” he shares in a humble tone, reflecting on his journey from dreaming to doing. “I started collecting pieces of metal, discarded parts, and anything I could find that resembled car components.”
What began as a backyard experiment soon evolved into a full-fledged prototype taking shape in his family’s yard. Using basic tools and an abundance of determination, Panashe meticulously pieced together the framework, engine parts salvaged from old appliances, and wheels crafted from repurposed materials.

The result? A rough but functional car prototype that rolls, albeit slowly, down the makeshift track he’s fashioned for testing.
Panashe’s mother, beaming with pride, marvels at her son’s ingenuity. “He’s always been curious and resourceful,” she beams, watching Panashe fine-tune his creation. “I’ve seen him struggle, but he never gave up. He’s always believed in what he can achieve.”
Encouraged by his family’s support, Panashe now looks to the wider community for assistance. “I want to take this further,” he declares with determination. “I need help to refine the design, improve the engine, and perhaps one day, build a car that can really drive on the roads.”
In a heartfelt plea to fellow Zimbabweans, Panashe’s mother invites those with ideas and resources to join hands in nurturing her son’s dream. “If you have expertise in engineering, access to spare parts, or simply a word of encouragement, please reach out,” she urges, her voice resonating with hope and optimism.
Panashe has also taken to social media to share his journey, posting updates on his progress and seeking collaborations with tech enthusiasts and investors. His YouTube video, where he details the challenges and triumphs of building his prototype, has garnered attention and support from viewers eager to see his vision come to fruition.
For those inspired to lend a helping hand, Panashe provides his contact details, inviting direct communication for collaboration and support. “Together, we can turn this dream into reality,” he affirms, his eyes shining with determination and a belief in the power of community support.
