Self-proclaimed prophet Talent Madungwe, who previously made headlines by claiming he had a “braai” with God in heaven, has now stirred controversy with his latest proclamation: women should use prayer, not love potions, to charm and tame their husbands.
Madungwe’s recent video has gone viral, igniting widespread debate among women’s groups and the public.
The video, recorded in a modest setting with one congregant in the background, captures the outspoken preacher delivering his unconventional advice.
In his address, Madungwe passionately urges women to rely on spiritual means rather than traditional love potions to maintain their relationships.
“Kana uri mukadzi, kana uchida kuita madhiri ekuti uite the best wife ku murume wako asaite ma small house. Even uri msakana uchida kuti mukomana aone kuti akarasikirwa na sisi ava. Vanhu ava navoshandisirwa prayer. Rovai varume ava ne prayer. Rovai vakomana venyu ne prayer. Varoverei ma prayer. Tinoramba ma dhiri ekudyisa munhu. Mudyise ne prayer. Pamberi nemadhiri kubva zuva ranhasi. Madhiri ngaarohwe kumba kubva nhasi,” Madungwe declared emphatically.

Translated, Madungwe’s message advises women to use prayer to become the best wives and ensure their husbands remain faithful. He extends this counsel to single women as well, suggesting they use prayer to make their boyfriends realize what they’ve lost. “Use prayer on these men. Strike them with prayer. Feed them with prayer instead of love potions. From today onwards, it’s all about prayer,” he urged.
Madungwe’s statements have prompted a mix of reactions.
Some applaud his call for spiritual solutions, viewing it as a positive shift from traditional, often questionable, practices.
They argue that prayer fosters a deeper, more meaningful connection within relationships. Others, however, criticize his remarks, questioning his credibility and the practicality of his advice in modern relationships.
Women’s rights groups have particularly weighed in, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and communication in relationships over any form of manipulation, whether spiritual or otherwise. They stress that while prayer can be a powerful tool, it should not replace essential elements like trust, dialogue, and understanding between partners.
