The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has lifted its ban on the music of renowned Zimbabwean artist Winky D, a decision that marks a significant reversal in its previous stance.
Winky D had faced exclusion from state airwaves following the release of his album “Eureka Eureka,” which featured poignant social commentary that unsettled the ruling elites.
Acting Chief Executive Officer Charles Munganasa announced the reversal of the music ban on Winky D’s compositions. However, it’s worth noting that certain songs such as “Ibotso” and “Dzimbadzemabwe” remain prohibited from airing.
Interestingly, Winky D’s latest extended play (EP), titled “Love Quartet,” has now gained traction and is receiving substantial airplay on local radio stations. This development signifies a notable shift in the broadcasting landscape, allowing for the dissemination of Winky D’s music to a wider audience after a period of exclusion lasting over a year.
