From Online Bargain To Bloodshed: Ximex Mall Cellphone Dealer Shot By Social Media Fraudster
Authorities in Harare are currently investigating a case of a robbery that took place on Tuesday afternoon in Braeside.
The incident unfolded when a cellphone dealer, operating at Ximex Mall in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD), was targeted by an unknown suspect who had posed as a potential buyer on social media.
According to reports, the unsuspecting dealer arranged a meeting with the supposed buyer, who expressed interest in purchasing cellphones.
However, upon meeting face-to-face, the situation quickly turned violent. The suspect, armed with a pistol, shot the dealer in the shoulder before making off with three valuable cellphones.
Meanwhile, the Harare Police have issued a public appeal for any information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said,
Police in Harare are investigating a case of robbery which occurred on 22/08/23 at around 1400 hours in Braeside.
A cellphone dealer who operates at Ximex Mall in Harare CBD was shot on the shoulder with a pistol by an unknown suspect who had posed as a potential buyer of cell phones on social media. The suspect stole three cell phones.

In another matter, authorities in Chegutu have initiated an investigation into a recent case of a robbery that occurred on August 18, 2023, at the 35-kilometer mark along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road.
The incident unfolded when a bread and confectioneries delivery truck was intercepted by three unidentified suspects traveling in a Toyota Wish vehicle.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspects swiftly approached the delivery truck, launching a brazen attack on both the driver and a sales representative. The assailants, armed and determined, forcefully seized two cell phones and a substantial sum of US$3,717.50 in cash from the victims.

Following the robbery, the suspects callously confined the victims to the rear compartment of the truck.
Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone with pertinent information regarding this incident to promptly report it to the nearest Police Station.
