Four men from Harare have been apprehended by the police for impersonating detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Homicide and robbing an individual.
The suspects, namely Praise Ngonidzashe Mundoringisa, Owen Pfani, Denford Kasambarare, and Nigel Regis Rongai, were arrested following a tip-off to the authorities.
The four individuals appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei, who remanded them in custody pending further proceedings.
According to court records, the incident occurred on November 8 when the accused were driving around the Waterfalls area in a white Toyota Belta. They allegedly intercepted Shadreck Bangura, who was driving a Honda Fit vehicle, and falsely informed him that he was under arrest for involvement in robberies committed using his car.
Under duress, the suspects purportedly compelled Bangura to drive to his residence, where they demanded cash and groceries from him. Additionally, they robbed the other passengers present in the vehicle.
After the offenders absconded with Bangura’s vehicle, he promptly contacted the police, who swiftly set up a trap to intercept the robbers. As a result, the suspects were arrested, and the stolen vehicle was successfully recovered.
During the arrest, the individuals were found in possession of various incriminating items, including a police identity card, a pair of handcuffs, a hand grenade irritant canister, and a laser shocker.
The case against the accused is ongoing, and they will remain in custody until further legal proceedings take place.
