Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed that the teenager, who had been in the company of his mother shortly before the incident, died instantly.
Lawrence Dzinokuvara was a Form One student at the school.
Shortly before the disaster, he was walking with his mother, Memory Nyakudya (45), and his sister Reform Dzinokuvara (24).
The weather then changed and rain started to fall leading to the family to temporarily separate as Lawrence sought some shelter.
He chose to seek refuge at a gum tree.
“When they were near Tim’s Butchery, it started raining and there were thunderstorms and lightning.
“The three had one umbrella.
“Lawrence decided to seek shelter at Timi’s Butchery where he found a gum tree.
“He was struck by lightning.
“Lawrence had sustained bruises on the left side of his back.
“Memory asked for help and she was referred to Victoria Chitepo Hospital where he was pronounced d3@d upon arrival.
“A report was filed at Mutare Central Police Station and officers attended the scene.”
