The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has taken stern action against Karonga United coach Oscar Kaunda and player Thulu for their involvement in a heated incident during a match against Blue Eagles at Civil Stadium.
The misconduct, which included Kaunda grabbing the referee’s private parts, has resulted in severe penalties for both parties.
Kaunda has been banned from all football activities for eight months and fined 500,000 kwacha.
Thulu, meanwhile, has been suspended from playing until May this year.
In addition to these individual penalties, Karonga United has been fined K1 million for failing to prevent Kaunda’s actions.
This is not the first time FAM has taken disciplinary action against players and coaches in Malawi.

Last year, six-match bans were handed to MAFCO FC players Vitumbiko Phiri, Blessings Chandiyang’ana, and Christopher Mikuwa, along with red cards, following a match against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on October 6, 2024.
The club was also fined K1,000,000 and warned of stricter consequences for future offenses, including a potential league ban.
The latest penalties serve as a warning to all players and coaches in the Malawi football league that FAM will not tolerate any form of misconduct or unsportsmanlike behavior.
With the upcoming matches in the league, it remains to be seen whether these penalties will serve as a deterrent or if further disciplinary action will be necessary.
