Bulawayo thieves executed a bizarre heist that has left authorities scratching their heads.
The incident took place on 6 January 2025, when the unknown assailants broke into a local shop, stealing a Chubb safe that contained US$10,569.
The perpetrators gained entry by smashing a window pane and folding back the burglar bars, allowing them unfettered access to the premises.
They then used a Jack trolley to haul the safe away, leaving behind a trail of clues that would later aid police in their investigation.

After their ill-fated attempt to crack the safe, the thieves abandoned it intact along a streambank near a Beer Garden in Tshabalala, Bulawayo.
The retrieval of the safe was a stroke of luck for law enforcement. Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele provided details in a press statement, explaining:
“We tracked the trolley marks towards Tshabalala and managed to recover the safe, which had US$10,569 still intact along the stream bank.”
Unfortunately, the Jack trolley used in the heist was not recovered.
In total, the value of the stolen property was estimated at US$11,869, while the recovered assets amount to US$11,269.
