A tr@gic @ccident occurred as two O-Level students, Denzel and Wayne, lost their lives when a kombi overturned while they were en route to collect their exam results from Mt St Mary’s High School in Hwedza on Wednesday.
Denzel had achieved remarkable academic success, with six As, three Bs, and a C, earning praise from his peers.
A source that spoke to H Metro reflected on his accomplishments, stating, “It’s a sad moment to lose such a young man.” Meanwhile, details regarding Wayne’s academic performance are still being confirmed, with his funeral wake taking place in Southlea Park.
Initial reports indicated that multiple students had perished in the crash. However, H-Metro later clarified that only Denzel and Wayne had died, while others sustained serious injuries.
Parents and friends of the injured have been praying earnestly for their recovery, with some reports indicating that one of the injured students is currently in a coma.
The accident took place at Chizema Shops, approximately 15 kilometers from the school’s location.

Parents expressed their heartbreak and fears about the pressures surrounding students and their results, saying, “Zvakutyisa kutaura maresults evana because vanhu vakutongoita zvese zvese, kune vasingafarire kubudirira kwevana.”
Denzel’s funeral wake is being held in Mabvuku, and his body is expected to be taken to Zvimba for burial on Saturday.
A condolence message from schoolmates to Wayne poignantly stated, “RIP to the greatest mafia in the world. Your heartfelt presence and all the memories made us who we are.”
Authorities at Mt St Mary’s High School confirmed the tragedy, describing it as a “dark cloud” over both parents and students. They emphasized the need for prayers, especially for those still battling critical injuries from the crash.
The school’s development committee chairman, Mr. A Nyasha, acknowledged the swift response from the hospital staff, who worked tirelessly to assist the victims, and thanked the teaching staff for providing support during this difficult time.
There have been unverified reports suggesting that the kombi was speeding at the time of the accident.
