The Zimbabwe Republic Police has officially confirmed the demise of Pride Moyo (29), Newman Ncube, and Ntokozo Ncube in a fatal shootout that transpired at Tuli River, Gwanda, on the 6th of February 2024, around 12:00 PM.
Detectives from CID Homicide Bulawayo, acting on received intelligence, intercepted four suspects believed to be involved in armed robbery. The suspects were travelling in a green and white Toyota Hiace near Tuli River en route to Freda mine.
Upon spotting the detectives, the suspects opened fire, leading to a shootout. Tragically, Pride Moyo, Newman Ncube, and Ntokozo Ncube sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Gwanda District Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
During the confrontation, detectives managed to seize a revolver 38 SPL with two live rounds, three empty cartridges, and a pellet gun from the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspects have been linked to two robbery cases and an attempted m_rder. In the first robbery case, occurring on the 30th of June 2023 at Insindi Ranch House, armed with pistols, a hunting knife, knobkerrie, and pepper spray, the suspects attacked two victims, making off with US$7,800.00 in cash, an FN 9mm pistol with a 13-round magazine, a Cadix .38 revolver, and jewellery valued at US$200.00.
In another incident on the 1st of January 2024 in Plumtree, the armed suspects targeted a victim, stealing US$74,000.00, ZAR 25,000.00, and a motor vehicle.
Furthermore, the suspects are implicated in an attempted m_rder case that took place on 1st August 2023 in Cowdray Park. During a shootout, three police officers sustained injuries.
Simelweyinkosi Dube, one of the suspects, managed to escape from the scene during the shootout. Police are urging the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest.
